Why We Love Fat Grafting

Transferring fat from one part of the body to another — it’s a dream come true for many. But until recently, this practice, called fat grafting or fat transfer, wasn’t as effective as many would have liked. Fat that was transferred often produced short-lived results as the body reabsorbed it after a few months. Now, however, vast improvements have begun producing beautiful and lasting results. My colleagues and I are proud to be 3 of only a few plastic surgeons in Marietta, GA, to offer these modern, safe liposuction and fat transfer techniques for Atlanta women and men.

How does a fat transfer work?

During the procedure, we harvest fat from one part of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs, via liposuction. We then purify the fat using a special process and inject it into the desired part of the body. The Aesthetic Society offers more details on what to expect during a fat transfer procedure.

Can you transfer fat from your stomach to your buttocks?

Yes, in many cases, we can transfer excess midsection fat to the buttocks. At Plastic Surgery Center of the South, fat grafting is an incredibly versatile procedure that we use to improve the volume and shape of various areas throughout the body, such as the:

  • Breasts: Fat grafting is a great way to improve the results of surgical breast augmentation. The strategic placement of your own fat around certain parts of your breasts can lead to results that look and feel exceptionally natural. You can read more about this process in our related blog post.
  • Buttocks: Fat grafting may be incorporated into a buttock lift, often called a Brazilian butt lift , which is a procedure intended to tone and reposition the buttocks. Adding volume to this area can contribute to a pleasing hourglass figure and help patients feel more confident with the improved proportions of their bodies.
  • Face: We frequently use fat grafting in facial procedures including facelift surgeries and lip augmentation. Fat injections add soft, kissable volume to the lips and fill out hollow areas in the cheeks that may have sunken due to aging.
