Arm Lift in the Atlanta Metro Area

Reduce loose upper-arm skin and excess fat with a personalized surgical approach designed to create slimmer, more proportionate arm contours.

A More Refined Upper-Arm Contour

When exercise cannot correct loose upper-arm skin

Significant weight loss, aging, gravity, skin laxity and thinning skin can leave the upper arms looking loose or saggy even when diet and exercise are consistent.

Loose skin in the upper arm can occur as a result of significant weight loss or aging due to gravity, skin laxity, and thinning skin. Despite rigorous arm exercises and diet, some patients feel they just can’t improve the appearance of their saggy upper arms.

Patients may find themselves hiding their upper arms in sleeved clothing because they feel self-conscious about the appearance of loose skin.

People visit Plastic Surgery Center of the South for arm lift surgery from Smyrna, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Georgia, and other surrounding communities.

Choosing the Right Approach

Liposuction or arm lift?

The upper arm is treated differently depending on your anatomy, skin quality, and whether excess fat, loose skin, or both are contributing to the concern.

When Fat Is the Main Concern

Tumescent Liposuction

If the main problem is heavy arms caused by excess fat and the skin remains healthy, firm, and elastic, tumescent liposuction may be an option. The surgeon sculpts and removes excess fat to reduce the upper arm and improve its proportion with the forearm.

This approach may also be performed at the same time as liposuction of other body areas.

When Loose Skin Is the Main Concern

Arm Lift Surgery

“Bat wings” refers to loose, sagging skin beneath the upper arms that can develop with time, gravity, or significant weight loss. When the skin is already loose, liposuction alone cannot correct the problem.

An arm lift removes and tightens excess skin to reshape the upper arm.

About the Procedure

How arm lift surgery reshapes the upper arms

An arm lift is a body-contouring procedure that lifts, tightens, and re-contours the upper arm by reducing excess skin and fat.

Outpatient Arm lift surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure.
1–2 Hours Procedure time depends on your particular circumstances.
State-Certified OR Surgery is performed in our state-certified operating rooms.
Armpit to Elbow The incision is generally placed along the inside of the arm.

Reduce excess skin and fat

The procedure is designed to remove the tissue responsible for the loose or heavy appearance of the upper arm and create a slimmer contour.

Place the incision discreetly

An incision is made from the armpit toward the elbow along the inside of the arm, allowing the surgeon to lift and tighten the tissues.

Re-contour the upper arm

The remaining tissues are reshaped to improve the relationship between the upper arm and forearm and create a more streamlined appearance.

Recovering From an Arm Lift

A relatively short return to everyday activity

Discomfort is typically mild to moderate and can usually be controlled with pain medication. Recovery varies, but many patients are able to return to work within a few days.

First Few Days

Manage discomfort

Mild to moderate discomfort is expected and can generally be controlled with prescribed pain medication.

Within a Few Days

Return to work

Many patients are normally able to return to work within a few days, depending on the demands of their job and individual recovery.

About 2 Weeks

Resume normal activities

Normal activities can often be resumed after approximately 2 weeks. An arm lift does not affect muscle tone, and normal physical activity is encouraged once recovery is complete.

Arm lift surgery involves exchanging one cosmetic concern—loose skin—for another—scars. Most patients who choose the procedure find the tradeoff worthwhile.

The Goal

Slimmer, more attractive upper arms

Whether liposuction or an arm lift is performed, the goal is to create slimmer, more attractive arms and improve overall proportion.

For appropriate candidates, treatment can help reduce self-consciousness when wearing sleeveless shirts, dresses, or bathing suits.

A thorough consultation with your plastic surgeon is required to determine which procedure is best suited to your anatomy and goals.
