Surgery After Weight Loss in the Atlanta Metro Area

Create a personalized surgical plan to address loose skin, residual pockets of fat and areas that remain out of proportion after significant weight loss.

About Surgery After Weight Loss

A customized plan for the areas that changed most

Post-weight-loss surgery is not one procedure. Your plan may combine body, breast, face or neck surgery depending on the improvements you want to make.

Because of the varied nature of the improvements that each individual may require, your particular post-weight-loss surgery may include one or more procedures, including body contouring, breast enhancement, or face and neck surgery such as a neck lift.

The goal is a comprehensive plan that addresses the specific areas where loose skin, residual fat or changes in proportion remain after weight loss.

Personalized Planning One plan, multiple possibilities

The exact combination, surgical sequence and recovery plan depend on the number and types of procedures involved. Your surgeon will explain which options can be safely performed together and what after-surgery care to expect.

Potential Procedures

Procedures that may be considered after weight loss

Your surgical plan may include one or more of the following procedures to create more comprehensive improvement across the body, breasts, neck or other areas.

Liposuction

Reduce pockets of fat on areas such as the abdomen, flanks, hips and arms.

Tummy Tuck

Remove some excess abdominal skin and stretch marks and, when necessary, tighten abdominal muscles.

Arm Lift

Tighten and tone loose skin of the upper arms when skin laxity remains after weight loss.

Thigh, Leg & Buttock Lift

Reduce sagging and extra skin of the lower body to improve contour and proportion.

Neck Lift

Address excess fat and sagging skin of the neck, including the appearance sometimes described as “turkey wattles.”

Breast Lift or Reduction

Correct sagging breasts whose size and tone are out of proportion with the rest of the body following weight loss.

Surgery & Aftercare

What to expect from your surgical plan

The length of surgery, dressings, drains, garments and recovery all depend on the specific procedures included in your plan.

Outpatient Surgery

Your post-weight-loss surgery may be performed on an outpatient basis in the practice’s state-certified operating room. Surgery time varies with the number and types of procedures involved.

Dressings & Drains

You will likely wear a light dressing after surgery. In some cases, drains may be used to help keep fluid retention at a minimum.

Compression Garments

If your plan includes liposuction, your surgeon may place you in a pressure garment that is worn for a period of time after surgery.

Individualized Recovery

Recovery depends on the procedures you combine

There is no single recovery timeline for surgery after weight loss because each plan is built around a different combination of procedures.

Recovery times and after-surgery care will vary and will be explained in detail by your surgeon during your consultation.

Your instructions may cover wound care, drains, compression garments, activity limitations, return to work and follow-up visits based on the procedures performed.

  • Surgical time varies by the number and type of procedures.
  • Dressings and drains may be required depending on your plan.
  • Compression garments may be used when liposuction is included.
  • Recovery and aftercare instructions are individualized.
Personalized Post-Weight-Loss Contouring

Build a surgical plan around your body and goals

Schedule a consultation to discuss which procedures may help address the areas that changed after significant weight loss and how they can be coordinated into a personalized plan.

The appropriate procedures, surgical sequence, recovery timeline and results vary by patient. This information is educational and does not replace a consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon.
