Dr. Harkins graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame before earning his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, recognizing exceptional academic achievement. He completed a highly competitive sixyear integrated plastic surgery residency at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he received advanced training in reconstructive surgery, microsurgery, and maxillofacial surgery.

In addition to his longstanding practice at Plastic Surgery Center of the South, Dr. Harkins serves as Section Chair of Plastic Surgery at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. He has contributed academic research, including work focused on breast reconstruction following mastectomy, and was honored by the Tampa Veterans Administration with a Gold Star for Service
Beyond the Operating Room
Outside of his surgical practice, Dr. Harkins values time with his family. He is married to Shanil Harkins, MD, a gastroenterologist, and together they are proud to be raising their two sons. Dr. Harkins is grateful to practice medicine in the same community where he and his family call home.

Dr. Harkins is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, an elite professional society of board-certified plastic surgeons. He has also contributed to his field through academic scholarship, participating in multiple research studies on topics such as breast reconstruction after mastectomy.
More than a Surgeon
In his hometown of East Cobb, Dr. Harkins played cornerback on the Walton High School football team. He is also an accomplished boxer and was a welterweight champion in Notre Dame’s famous Bengal Bouts. During his residency in Florida, Dr. Harkins met his wife, gastroenterologist Dr. Shanil Harkins. They are the proud parents of two sons.
