Dr. Harkins graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame before earning his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, recognizing exceptional academic achievement. He completed a highly competitive six year integrated plastic surgery residency at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he received advanced training in reconstructive surgery, microsurgery, and maxillofacial surgery.

In addition to his longstanding practice at Plastic Surgery Center of the South, Dr. Harkins serves as Section Chair of Plastic Surgery at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. He has contributed academic research, including work focused on breast reconstruction following mastectomy, and was honored by the Tampa Veterans Administration with a Gold Star for Service
Beyond the Operating Room
Outside of his surgical practice, Dr. Harkins values time with his family. He is married to Shanil Harkins, MD, a gastroenterologist, and together they are proud to be raising their two sons. Dr. Harkins is grateful to practice medicine in the same community where he and his family call home.
