A Better Balance: How To Fix Asymmetrical Breasts with Implants

Here’s a common concern that few people talk about openly: asymmetrical breasts. Although it’s rarely discussed outside a plastic surgeon’s office, most women actually have breasts of different sizes or positions. With the help of breast implants , we can help Atlanta women undergoing breast augmentation surgery achieve the symmetry (and other cosmetic enhancements they desire).

How can you fix asymmetrical breasts?

Breast augmentation continues to be one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures offered in the U.S., according to the most recent data from The Aesthetic Society. It consistently ranks in the top 5 each year, thanks to its versatility and highly customizable results.

When it comes to asymmetry, in particular, there are a few things that a plastic surgeon can do to make a woman’s breasts more even.

Use Different Implant Sizes

First, implants of different sizes can be used for each breast. It’s common for plastic surgeons to use temporary sizers in your initial consultation so you can get a better idea of what your results will look like. Together, you can determine which implant combination brings the breasts into better balance and achieves your desired results.

Fill With Differing Amounts of Saline

With saline implants, other opportunities to correct asymmetry arises. In some cases, you can use the same implant size for each breast but have one filled slightly more than the other. This option is not available for patients who choose silicone implants, however, as these come prefilled.

Some saline implants, though, are filled after they are inserted, allowing the surgeon to customize the size of each breast as needed.

Position Breasts to Match

Another way that plastic surgeons address asymmetry is through their surgical techniques. This factor often comes into play with such breast enhancement procedures as a breast lift or breast reduction. A surgeon can remove tissue or place sutures in such a way that the position or appearance of one breast matches up better with the other.

Choose a Skilled Surgeon

It’s important for patients, and women in general, to remember that breast asymmetry is completely normal and to keep in mind the slight risk that surgery alone may not permanently or completely fix the issue. In these rare cases, revisionary surgery can typically correct any concerns. Patients can minimize their risks, though, by choosing experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons who specialize in breast enhancement.
