Refresh Those Windows to Your Soul

Your eyes provide much more than a glimpse into your soul. They communicate your emotions and how rested and youthful you feel. For some people, their eyes send messages that aren’t true. That’s because people who feel rested and energetic may still have dark circles or droopy eyelids. If your eyes appear tired, wrinkled or puffy, there are both surgical and nonsurgical procedures such as blepharoplasty or BOTOX ® injections we perform at our Marietta, GA, practice that can help restore a beautiful, more youthful, and rested appearance.

Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a very popular surgical procedure that removes excess skin, fat or muscle from those droopy and puffy upper and lower eyelids. It improves baggy skin under the eyes, sinking upper eyelids or drooping eyelids that impair vision. The procedure can correct a medical condition called ptosis (drooping eyelid) which is caused by poor muscle tone or nerve damage. As we age, excess skin forms in and around the eye area and the skin loses its elasticity. Unlike other areas of the body and even the face, fatty tissue around the eyes cannot be reduced by losing weight.

Nonsurgical Treatments

ThermiSmooth® Face is a non-invasive treatment for skin laxity, wrinkle improvement, and smoothing that is effective for different areas of the face and neck. ThermiSmooth® is a temperature- controlled radiofrequency treatment that heats the dermis to promote immediate contraction and stimulation of collagen, and collagen remodeling. It enhances the elasticity of the skin and promotes long-term collagen production. That makes it a very effective procedure for treating fine lines, skin laxity and uneven or rough skin. Besides the eyes, other areas that can be treated with ThermiSmooth include:

  • Forehead
  • Cheeks
  • Mouth
  • Neck

BOTOX treatments are excellent for smoothing out specific types of wrinkles called “dynamic wrinkles.” These are caused by the repeated contractions of facial muscles, such as when we squint, frown, or look surprised. The usual treatment areas include:

  • Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows and across the bridge of the nose
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes

Skin Care

Fighting free radicals is one of the best ways to slow the aging process around the eyes. With the antioxidants in Vitamin CE Ferulic Acid from SkinCeuticals, you can protect your skin and prevent the damage that brings on signs of aging and skin cancer. DEJ eye cream™on the upper and lower eyelids reduces the appearance of wrinkles with peptides and helps tighten the skin around eyes.

As with any procedure you are considering, make sure your consultation is with a specialty trained certified plastic surgeon.  You can call our office at (770) 421-1242 to schedule a complimentary medical spa consultation to see which option is right for you.
