What to Expect Before, During & After Your First CoolSculpting® Treatment

Diet and exercise alone aren’t always able to get rid of stubborn rolls and bulges. If you have been looking for a way to reduce fat—all without the need for surgery— CoolSculpting® may be your answer. Patients from Atlanta, Roswell, and beyond have turned to this nonsurgical procedure to freeze away fat cells and slim down their bodies.

Curious if this procedure is right for you? Here is what you can expect before, during, and after your first CoolSculpting appointment.

Before: Your Consultation

The first step in any CoolSculpting journey is to schedule a consultation with our practice. During this private one-on-one meeting, you will be able to discuss your treatment goals and ask any questions you may have. Your doctor will then analyze the area you wish to have treated and determine if CoolSculpting would be the best approach. Ideal candidates are at or near their goal weight but are looking to reduce small, “pinchable” areas of fat.

In addition to CoolSculpting, your doctor may suggest other treatments that would pair well with body contouring, such as skin rejuvenation or injectables. Together you can create a customized beauty plan that transforms your entire body.

During: Your Treatment

On the day of your appointment, arrive at the office 5 to 10 minutes ahead of schedule. This will give you time to sort out any last-minute paperwork or ask any lingering questions. Once you’re prepared, you will be led into the CoolSculpting treatment room.

You’ll be led to a comfortable, reclined seat, and then your provider will place the handheld CoolSculpting applicator against your skin. It will suction up the fatty tissue to hold it in place, exposing the area to cool temperatures. Your skin may tingle at first, but it will begin to numb over time. The total procedure usually lasts 1 to 2 hours, depending on the number of areas you’re having treated.

After: Your Recovery

As CoolSculpting is a nonsurgical procedure, there is no required downtime afterward. You can return to work or home immediately following your appointment. You may experience some mild tingling or “thawing” as your skin slowly warms. Occasionally, bruising and redness are side effects, but these issues will fade after a few hours.

Your body contouring results will gradually develop over the next several weeks. As the body sheds the frozen fat cells, the target area reduces in size. Some patients opt for 2 to 3 sessions to make sure their target areas are fully sculpted. You can expect to see your final results around 2 to 3 months after the procedure.
