What Does "Best" Mean, Anyway?

Women considering cosmetic surgery after having children often begin their online research by looking for the “best mommy makeover surgeon” in Atlanta (or whatever city is closest to where they live). Of course, “best” is a description that means different things to different people.
Even though people pursuing plastic surgery often search for the “best” surgeon for specific procedures, such as breast augmentation or tummy tucks, a mommy makeover combines these operations, so it requires someone with a broad range of technical skills and an artistic eye.

Defining “Best”

Choosing a plastic surgeon to perform a procedure such as a Mommy Makeover is one of the most important—and personal—decisions that you’ll make. There are a number of factors to consider when trying to find the “best” surgeon for you. Some of the criteria that patients may use includes:
Results: A good outcome is something everyone wants. Most patients spend more time looking at before-and-after photos online than they do on any other page of a plastic surgeon’s website. That’s an important way to judge a surgeon’s skill, but certainly not the only way.
Facility and technology: Our plastic surgery practice in Atlanta features state-of-the-art equipment and provides patients with a safe environment for cosmetic procedures. A surgeon’s facility and access to current technology are certainly aspects that should be considered when choosing a doctor.
Experience: This doesn’t just mean the number of years a surgeon has been in practice. It’s important to know that a surgeon performs combination surgeries such as Mommy Makeovers on a regular basis.
Personality and rapport: Plastic surgery is a very personal choice, and getting the best results involves open and honest communication between a patient and surgeon. Discussing the concerns you have with the appearance of your body with someone you don’t know can be intimidating. The best surgeon for you will be someone with whom you feel comfortable having these types of conversations.
Consultations are critical in assessing plastic surgeons and whether they’re the best one for you. It’s helpful to jot down questions you want to ask during the meeting so you don’t forget to ask them. Ideally, the surgeon combines all aspects of the factors listed above. Each patient is unique, of course, and the truth is that finding the “best mommy makeover surgeon” is ultimately a determination that may differ from person to person.
We do encourage patients to start by ensuring the surgeons they consider are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) because they have more training and experience specific to plastic surgery than other surgeons.
