Is a Mommy Makeover Worth It?

We often get asked the question, “Is a Mommy Makeover worth it?” Our answer is invariably the same: a Mommy Makeover is one of the most emotionally rewarding plastic surgery procedures that a woman—whether or not she has kids or ever plans to have them—can undergo.

A Mommy Makeover is an opportunity for total body enhancement. Each surgical package is fully customized to the patient’s unique needs and aesthetic goals: whether it is to reclaim her pre-pregnancy body or target all of her “trouble areas” that are affecting her self-confidence.

Find out more about this liberating procedure below.

What Is Mommy Makeover Surgery?

A Mommy Makeover combines multiple cosmetic procedures within a single surgery. Most patients who choose this surgery have experienced significant bodily changes following pregnancy and breastfeeding, though any woman looking to enhance multiple areas of the body can benefit from this combination approach.

“I highly recommend this practice if you are thinking about any kind of plastic surgery. Dr Petrovsky performed lipo 360, tummy tuck, BBL, face/neck lift – I had everything completed in one surgery. I am so pleased with the results! Everything looks very natural. Everyone in the office & surgical staff are kind and helpful! Thank you Dr. P”

What Procedures Are Included in a Mommy Makeover?

Given the customizable nature of the procedure, a Mommy Makeover has no set or standardized rules for what is included in it. However, women commonly choose 2 to 3 procedures from among the following list:

  • Breast Enhancement Procedures
    • Breast Lift : Corrects sagging and skin laxity and gives the breasts and nipples a more youthful positioning
    • Breast Reduction : Alleviates excess strain on the back and shoulders and makes the breasts more proportionate to the rest of the body
  • Body Procedures
    • Tummy Tuck : Repairs separated abdominal muscles and removes excess fat and skin for a trimmer, firmer midsection
    • Brazilian Butt Lift : Unwanted fat is transferred from a “donor site” (e.g., the thighs, abdomen, or hips) and is relocated to the buttocks for added volume and shape
  • Nonsurgical Procedures
    • ThermiVa® : Addresses vaginal laxity by tightening and toning the skin and muscles

Your board-certified plastic surgeon will work with you to determine which procedures will help you achieve your ideal results. Our treatment planner is also a great resource to learn more about nonsurigcal options you can include in your transformation:

    Wrinkles & Fine Lines

Among the most common signs of aging, fine lines and wrinkles appear in multiple areas of the face from several causes. Whether your lines are due to lost collagen, environmental damage, or facial expressions repeated over time, we offer minimally invasive treatments to diminish their appearance.

  • Treatment planner model showing crows feat area

    Crow's Feet

Do you notice thin lines outside the corners of your eyes when you squint or smile? Those are crow’s feet. Because the skin around the eyes is so thin, these lines are often the first signs of aging people notice, sometimes as early as their late 20s. Neuromodulators relax the muscles around your eyes to prevent the skin from bunching and wrinkling.

    Treatment Options:

BOTOX® Cosmetic CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing Chemical Peels Dysport®
    Hydrafacial®

  • Treatment planner model showing worry line area

    Vertical Worry Lines

Also called frown lines, glabellar lines, or “11s,” these vertical lines between your eyebrows appear with repeated frowning over time. By relaxing the underlying muscles, neuromodulator injections prevent you from frowning as intensely, allowing the skin to remain smooth and wrinkle-free.

    Treatment Options:

    BOTOX® Cosmetic Dysport®
    CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing JUVÉDERM® XC Hydrafacial®

  • Treatment planner model showing thin lip area

    Thin Lips

Full, plump lips convey a healthy, youthful, and attractive appearance. Many people have thinner lips than they would like, whether as a result of aging or genetics. Injections of dermal fillers add volume and definition to the lips to create a unique, natural-looking result that harmonizes with your other features.

    Treatment Options:

    JUVÉDERM® XC JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC
    Restylane®
    Restylane Kysse™

  • Treatment planner model showing sun damage areas

    Sun Damage

UV exposure is one of the most prevalent causes of premature aging. Even minimal daily exposure leads to rough texture, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation over time. The best treatments achieve 2 goals: correct existing damage and stimulate collagen production for ongoing rejuvenation of the face, neck, chest, and more.

    Treatment Options:

CO2 Fractional Resurfacing Chemical Peels Microdermabrasion Skin Care Products Hydrafacial®

  • Treatment planner model showing loose skin areas

    Loose Skin

As we age, decreased collagen and elastin lead to loose, sagging skin that doesn’t have as much elasticity or ability to “bounce back” as it once did. To treat this, we stimulate new collagen production by causing microinjuries or heating the tissues, encouraging the skin to heal and regenerate itself.

    Treatment Options:

    Candela Laser Skin Tightening
    CO2 Fractional Resurfacing Hydrafacial®

  • Treatment planner model showing age spots areas

    Age Spots

Dark spots on the skin naturally occur as part of the aging process. Some are faint enough to fade with medical-grade skincare products, while others require deeper treatments such as lasers or peels to break up the pigmentation or remove the darker cells, revealing fresher, more even, and youthful skin.

    Treatment Options:

CO2 Fractional Resurfacing Chemical Peels Microdermabrasion Hydrafacial® Skin Care Products

  • Treatment planner model showing loss of fat areas

    Loss of Fat

Fat loss sounds like a good thing, but losing fat in certain areas of the face deflates a plump, youthful appearance. The cheeks and temples especially benefit from volume restoration through injections of dermal fillers or your own fat tissue harvested from elsewhere in your body.

    Treatment Options:

    Autologous fat injections
    JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA XC Restylane®
    Restylane Defyne™
    Restylane Lyft™
    Sculptra® Aesthetic

  • Treatment planner model showing decreased collagen areas

    Decreased Collagen

As we age, we naturally lose collagen in our skin. This results in thinner, less elastic skin that sags and causes a deflated look over time. We offer treatments that address this issue at the source by stimulating new collagen production as well as correcting cosmetic issues to turn back the clock.

    Treatment Options:

    Candela Laser Skin Tightening
    CO2 Fractional Resurfacing Hydrafacial® Sculptra® Aesthetic

  • Treatment planner model showing cheek volume areas

    Cheek Volume

Full, defined, and lifted cheeks help us look young and healthy. Unfortunately, depleted collagen and facial fat cause cheeks to flatten, fall, and even appear sunken over time. Injectable treatments replace that lost volume to restore plumper, rounder cheeks and a more vibrant, refreshed look.

    Treatment Options:

    Autologous fat injections
    JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA XC Restylane®
    Restylane Lyft™
    Sculptra® Aesthetic

  • Treatment planner model showing dull complexion areas

    Dull & Dry Complexion

Dullness and dryness are often caused by sun damage, pollution, and natural imbalances in the skin. Get your best skin with medical-grade skincare products designed to hydrate and exfoliate and medical spa treatments that refresh and slough away dull or damaged cells.

    Treatment Options:

Dermaplaning Chemical Peels Microdermabrasion Hydrafacial® Skincare Products

  • Treatment planner model showing marionette line areas

    Marionette Lines

These lines run from the corners of the mouth down to the jawline, similar to the lines you see on a marionette. We treat them either by adding volume below the skin to fill in the lines or by resurfacing the skin to encourage collagen production and create a tauter, smoother skin.

    Treatment Options:

    CO2 Fractional Resurfacing JUVÉDERM® XC Restylane®
    RADIESSE®
    Hydrafacial®

  • Treatment planner model showing nasolabial folds areas

    Nasolabial Folds

These deep-set folds run from the sides of the nose down to the corners of the mouth, creating an aged appearance. We typically treat these folds by injecting dermal fillers beneath the skin, filling in the sunken area and evening out the skin’s surface. Laser skin resurfacing may also help to treat less severe folds.

    Treatment Options:

    CO2 Fractional Resurfacing JUVÉDERM® XC Restylane® Hydrafacial®

  • Treatment planner model showing smoker's lines areas

    Smoker's Lines

These thin vertical lines around the mouth are not always caused by smoking. Sometimes called kissing lines, they may also result from using drinking straws or simply from a natural loss of collagen over time. We treat them by filling them in with injectable dermal fillers.

    Treatment Options:

CO2 Fractional Resurfacing Chemical Peels JUVÉDERM® XC RADIESSE®
    Restylane®
    Hydrafacial®

  • Treatment planner model showing acne areas

    Acne & Acne Scarring

Acne is a common but frustrating skin concern, and the acne scars left behind are often especially difficult to treat. In addition to recommending medical-grade skincare products to treat acne and lighten scars, we perform peels and laser treatments to minimize pigmented, pitted, or raised acne scars for a clear and even glow.

    Treatment Options:

How Much Does a Mommy Makeover Cost?

Since every Mommy Makeover is customized to the patient, cost estimates will always be variable. You will need to pay for each individual procedure; however, you will only need to pay the surgical fees (i.e., anesthesiology and facilities fees) once.

The exception to this rule is if your Mommy Makeover needs to be spread out over two different surgeries. If the list of desired procedures exceeds the six-hour window that patients can safely be under anesthesia, the patient may need to schedule a second procedure after they have had sufficient time to heal from their initial surgery.

Our related blog post provides a more detailed breakdown of the various Mommy Makeover costs that you can expect.

Mommy Makeover Recovery

The amount of downtime required following a Mommy Makeover procedure and the different movement restrictions will depend on which procedures you have undergone. Most patients will need at least 2 weeks away from work or school to recover.

Although any pain and discomfort are easily managed using over-the-counter medication, post-surgical swelling and bruising will take time to dissipate. In fact, it can take up to 6 months for your final results to develop as your body heals and your implants (if you have them) “drop and fluff” into a more natural positioning.

Patients with young children will need additional support during the first weeks of recovery. We advise these parents to have an active and well-prepared support system in place to help with looking after the children and performing any household activities that would cause undue strain.

Although the renewed body confidence and patient satisfaction are undeniable— 95% of Mommy Makeover patients on RealSelf give their procedure an unequivocal “Worth It” rating—there is an emotional toll that must also be considered.

For example, being unable to pick up your children due to weight and movement restrictions can be distressing for both mother and child—as can the feeling of being a “burden” on others. However, giving yourself permission to rest, heal, and be taken care of by others means that you will be back to your regular routines sooner rather than later.

How Long Do Mommy Makeover Results Last?

Most women can enjoy their Mommy Makeover results for 10 years or more, provided that they maintain a stable weight. Women who have had a breast augmentation with implants may choose to replace their implants after 10-15 years for quality control reasons or to reflect their new aesthetic preferences.

Although your body will continue to change and age, you will still look younger than if you had never undergone your procedure. The longevity of the results, paired with the liberating feeling of having the body of your youth (or the one you’ve always wanted!), makes the Mommy Makeover one of the most emotionally satisfying cosmetic procedures.

You can see the beautiful, personal results that this procedure can create in our Mommy Makeover before and after photo gallery. If you are ready to take the next step toward full body confidence, please request a consultation  or call us at  (770) 421-1242 .

In today's fast-paced world, many people want to look refreshed and youthful without the downtime, expense, or commitment of surgery. Fortunately, advances in cosmetic skin care have made it possible to achieve noticeable improvements through non-surgical treatments that are safe, effective, and tailored to your unique goals. If you're considering aesthetic treatments, here's what you need to know about non-surgical cosmetic procedures and how they can help you look and feel your best. What Are Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures? Non-surgical cosmetic procedures are treatments designed to enhance your appearance without incisions, general anesthesia, or lengthy recovery periods. These treatments can address common concerns such as: Fine lines and wrinkles Volume loss in the face Uneven skin tone and texture Sun damage Acne scars Enlarged pores Skin laxity Unwanted hair Most procedures can be performed in an office setting, allowing patients to return to their normal activities shortly after treatment. Popular Non-Surgical Treatment Options Neuromodulators Neuromodulators such as Botox® and Dysport® relax targeted facial muscles that contribute to dynamic wrinkles. They are commonly used to soften: Forehead lines Frown lines between the eyebrows Crow's feet around the eyes Results typically appear within a few days and can last several months. Dermal Fillers Dermal fillers restore lost volume and enhance facial contours. They can be used to improve: Cheeks Lips Jawline definition Nasolabial folds Under-eye hollows Modern fillers provide natural-looking results that help patients appear refreshed rather than overdone. Laser and Light-Based Treatments Laser treatments can improve a variety of skin concerns, including: Sun damage Brown spots Redness Fine lines Acne scars These treatments stimulate collagen production while improving overall skin quality and tone. Chemical Peels Chemical peels exfoliate damaged skin cells and encourage healthy skin renewal. Depending on the peel selected, they can improve: Hyperpigmentation Acne Fine lines Dull skin Many patients appreciate the brighter, smoother complexion that follows treatment. Microneedling Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen production. It is often used to improve: Fine lines Acne scars Skin texture Enlarged pores Results develop gradually as new collagen forms over time. What Results Can You Expect? Non-surgical treatments can deliver impressive improvements, but it's important to have realistic expectations. These procedures are designed to enhance your natural features rather than dramatically alter your appearance. The best outcomes often come from a customized treatment plan that combines multiple procedures to address different aspects of facial aging and skin health. Are Non-Surgical Procedures Safe? When performed by qualified and experienced medical professionals, non-surgical cosmetic procedures are generally very safe. During your consultation, your provider should review: Your medical history Current medications Treatment goals Potential risks and side effects Choosing an experienced provider is one of the most important factors in achieving safe, natural-looking results. How Do You Know Which Treatment Is Right for You? The ideal treatment depends on your concerns, anatomy, lifestyle, and desired outcome. A personalized consultation allows your provider to evaluate your skin and develop a plan tailored to your goals. Whether you're interested in preventing early signs of aging or restoring a more youthful appearance, non-surgical cosmetic procedures offer effective options with minimal disruption to your daily routine. The Bottom Line Non-surgical cosmetic treatments continue to grow in popularity because they provide meaningful results without surgery or extensive downtime. Achieving a sculpted, toned midsection is one of the most common aesthetic goals for men and women alike. However, despite a dedicated fitness routine and a healthy diet, certain areas of the body—particularly the abdomen—can be stubbornly resistant to change. Whether due to pregnancy, significant weight fluctuations, or the natural aging process, the midsection often bears the brunt of physical changes that exercise alone cannot reverse. When diet and exercise reach their limit, many people consider body contouring procedures. The two most popular options are abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and liposuction. While both procedures target the midsection, they are designed to solve very different anatomical issues. If you are trying to decide between a tummy tuck vs. liposuction, it is essential to understand the nuances of each. At Plastic Surgery Center of The South in Marietta, serving the greater Atlanta area, our board-certified surgeons specialize in helping patients navigate these choices to achieve their ideal silhouette. What is Liposuction? Targeted Fat Removal for Better Contours Liposuction is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic procedures worldwide. Its primary goal is the removal of localized deposits of fat that are disproportionate to the rest of the body. How Liposuction Works During the procedure, a surgeon makes tiny, inconspicuous incisions near the target area. A thin tube called a cannula is inserted to loosen the excess fat and vacuum it out. This allows the surgeon to "sculpt" the area, creating smoother lines and better proportions. Who is the Ideal Candidate for Liposuction? Liposuction is not a weight-loss tool. Instead, it is a contouring procedure. The ideal candidate: Is at or near their ideal body weight. Has localized "pockets" of fat (love handles, lower belly pooch). Has good skin elasticity. This is the most crucial factor. For liposuction to look good, the skin must be supple enough to "shrink-wrap" over the new, slimmer contour once the fat is removed. What is a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)? Repairing the Foundations While liposuction addresses fat, a tummy tuck addresses the three pillars of abdominal aesthetics: excess skin, stubborn fat, and weakened muscles. How a Tummy Tuck Works An abdominoplasty involves a horizontal incision made between the pubic hairline and the belly button. Through this incision, the surgeon: 1. Tightens the Muscles: If the abdominal muscles have stretched or separated (a condition known as diastasis recti, common after pregnancy), the surgeon sutures them back together to create a firm internal girdle. 2. Removes Excess Skin: The "apron" of hanging skin is surgically removed. 3. Repositioning the Navel: Often, the belly button is repositioned to look natural with the newly tightened skin. Who is the Ideal Candidate for a Tummy Tuck? A tummy tuck is generally recommended for patients who have: Significant skin laxity (loose, sagging skin). Stretched or separated abdominal muscles. Persistent skin folds following massive weight loss or pregnancy. Lower abdominal scarring or stretch marks that can be removed with the excess skin. Key Differences: Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction To help you decide which path is right for you, consider these three main points of comparison: 1. Skin Elasticity Liposuction does nothing to tighten loose skin. In fact, if you have poor skin elasticity and undergo liposuction, you may end up with "deflated" or "crepey" looking skin because the volume has been removed but the envelope remains the same size. A tummy tuck is the only way to physically remove redundant skin. 2. Muscle Separation Many women in the Atlanta area visit us following childbirth. Pregnancy often causes the vertical abdominal muscles to separate. No amount of crunches or liposuction can repair these muscles; only a tummy tuck can pull them back together to flatten the stomach profile. 3. Recovery and Scarring Liposuction involves minimal scarring (tiny dots) and a relatively quick recovery. Most patients return to work within a few days to a week. Tummy Tuck is a more invasive surgery. It results in a permanent scar along the bikini line (which can be hidden by underwear or swimwear) and requires a longer recovery period—typically 2 to 4 weeks before returning to normal activities. Can You Do Both? The Power of the "Lipo-Abdominoplasty" In many cases, the best result isn't "either/or"—it's both. A lipo-abdominoplasty combines the skin-tightening and muscle-repairing benefits of a tummy tuck with the precision fat-sculpting of liposuction. By performing liposuction on the flanks (love handles) during a tummy tuck, our surgeons can create a more dramatic "hourglass" figure that a tummy tuck alone might not achieve. This combination is a core component of the "Mommy Makeover," a customized suite of procedures designed to restore a woman's body after childbearing. Considerations for Patients in the Atlanta Area Choosing a plastic surgeon is a significant decision. At Plastic Surgery Center of The South, we pride ourselves on providing a boutique, patient-centered experience right here in Marietta. During your consultation, we use a comprehensive physical evaluation to determine which procedure fits your anatomy. Factors we consider include: Your future plans (e.g., are you planning more children?). Your current Body Mass Index (BMI). The quality and "snap-back" of your skin. The presence of a "pooch" caused by muscle wall weakness versus subcutaneous fat. Conclusion: Which is Right for You? If your main concern is a few extra inches of fat and your skin is firm, liposuction may be the perfect, minimally invasive solution. However, if you are struggling with "the apron" of loose skin or a protruding belly caused by weakened muscles, a tummy tuck will provide the transformative results you desire. In the high-stakes professional environments of Atlanta—from the boardrooms of Buckhead to the innovative hubs of Midtown—presence is often defined by confidence. For many women, physical proportion plays a significant role in how they carry themselves and how their professional attire fits. However, the modern approach to breast augmentation has shifted away from the pursuit of maximum volume. Today, the focus is on "proportional harmony"—a strategic alignment between your surgical goals and your unique physical frames. At Plastic Surgery Center of The South, we view breast augmentation not as a standalone procedure, but as a corrective and enhancing measure designed to bring the body into balance. Understanding that "size" is a subjective metric is the first step toward achieving a result that looks natural, feels comfortable, and enhances your professional silhouette. Beyond the CC: Understanding the Mechanics of Proportion Many patients begin their journey by researching a specific volume, often measured in cubic centimeters (CCs). However, focusing solely on a numeric value is a common pitfall. A "300cc" implant will look radically different on a tall, athletic frame than it will on a petite, narrow-shouldered individual. As your dedicated partner in aesthetic health, our approach prioritizes your specific anatomy. We evaluate several critical factors: Chest Wall Width: The diameter of your breast tissue and the width of your ribcage dictate the "footprint" of the implant. An implant that is too wide can lead to unnatural contours, while one that is too narrow may not provide the desired cleavage. Existing Breast Tissue: The amount of natural tissue available to cover the implant affects the final aesthetic. This is a critical consideration when discussing the nuances of silicone vs saline options. Torso Length: A longer torso can often accommodate more projection without appearing "top-heavy," whereas a shorter torso requires a more subtle profile to maintain a balanced midsection. Selecting the Right Catalyst: Silicone vs. Saline The choice of material is often a matter of tactile preference and long-term maintenance. Both silicone and saline implants have distinct characteristics that contribute to the overall proportion and feel of the breast. Silicone Gel Implants - Silicone is frequently the preferred choice for patients seeking the most natural mimicry of human fat and breast tissue. Modern "form-stable" or cohesive gel implants maintain their shape exceptionally well, which is vital for maintaining a consistent profile under professional garments. They are particularly beneficial for patients with less natural breast tissue, as they are less prone to "rippling." Saline Implants - Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater and offer the benefit of a smaller incision, as they are filled after insertion. While they can feel slightly firmer than silicone, they allow for precise, intraoperative adjustments to volume, ensuring that symmetry is achieved to the milliliter. During your consultation at Plastic Surgery Center of The South, we provide a comprehensive breast augmentation size guide through physical "sizers" and expert assessment, helping you feel the weight and see the projection of each option before your procedure. The Professional Silhouette: Symmetry and Clothing Fit For many of our patients in the business community, the primary motivation for surgery is the "proportional fit" of professional attire. When the bust is out of proportion with the hips and shoulders, blazers, sheath dresses, and tailored button-downs rarely fit off-the-rack. A successful augmentation achieves "The Balanced Profile": Shoulder Alignment: The bust should complement the width of the shoulders, creating a classic hourglass or athletic V-taper. The Lateral View: Proper projection ensures that the profile is feminine yet understated, avoiding an aggressive appearance that may feel out of place in a conservative corporate setting. Upper Pole Fullness: We focus on a natural slope rather than an artificial roundness, ensuring the results are indistinguishable from natural anatomy. Establishing Expertise: Why Local Specialization Matters At Plastic Surgery Center of The South, Dr. Corey Harkins, MD, who is a board-certified plastic surgeon in greater Atlanta is committed to his core values of ethics, integrity, honesty and education. His practice draws patients from Atlanta and across the U.S. The geographic context of his practice allows him to understand the lifestyle of his patients. Whether you are prepping for a keynote presentation or maintaining an active lifestyle your results must be durable, comfortable, and visually seamless. Long-Term Considerations for the Executive Lifestyle Breast augmentation is a long-term investment in your self-image. It is important to consider how your results will evolve over time. Longevity: While implants are not lifetime devices, choosing the right size and weight initially can prevent premature sagging or the need for a lift (mastopexy) later in life. Overly large implants can strain the skin envelope over time; choosing a proportional size ensures longevity. Recovery Management: For the busy professional, we utilize recovery protocols designed to minimize downtime, allowing you to return to your leadership role with minimal disruption. Health and Wellness: We prioritize your systemic health, ensuring that your implants do not interfere with mammographies or physical fitness routines. Actionable Takeaways for Your Transformation If you are considering breast augmentation, keep these strategic points in mind: Prioritize Dimensions Over CCs: Focus on how the breast will look in relation to your shoulder and hip width. Test Your Wardrobe: Bring a favorite professional blazer or dress to your consultation to see how different "sizer" volumes change the garment's fit. Consult the Experts: Avoid "template" surgeries. Ensure your surgeon provides a customized plan based on your unique chest wall measurements. Understand the Material: Weigh the benefits of silicone's natural feel against saline's adjustable volume and smaller incision. Your Path to Proportional Balance At Plastic Surgery Center of The South, we believe that aesthetic procedures should empower you to feel more like yourself. By moving beyond the simple metric of size and embracing the philosophy of proportion, you can achieve a result that enhances your confidence both in your personal life and your professional career.
