How to Prepare For Facelift Surgery

It is exciting to begin your plastic surgery journey, but it can also feel overwhelming. There are many appointments to schedule and prescriptions to pick up as you plan for your facelift surgery.

Many of our Atlanta and Marietta patients ask how they can best prepare for this procedure. Over the years, we’ve gathered a few tips and tricks that help make your surgery a smooth and stress-free process.

Organize your home.

When you first return home after your procedure, the last thing you want to worry about is chores. Organize and prepare your recovery space beforehand so it’s sanitized and clutter-free. Gather a few of your favorite entertainment devices—tablets, books, TV remotes—and put them in an easy-to-reach location. You may also want to make a few quick, nutritious meals that you can easily reheat while you’re recovering at home.

Avoid certain medications.

Give your body the support it needs before it goes through surgery. Avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin or Advil® in the weeks leading up to your facelift. These drugs thin your blood and increase the risk of excessive bleeding. Other alternatives such as Tylenol® can be safely used in moderate amounts when necessary.

Form a support network.

Going through surgery is an intense experience, and a facelift is no exception. We recommend that you get in touch with friends and family and let them know you’ll be undergoing treatment.

Your range of motion and activity levels will be limited in the days after the procedure. It’s important to have a support system nearby to help you with everyday tasks while you recover

Prepare your skin before surgery.

The skin around your face is very sensitive and requires attentive care. Use nourishing skincare products in the weeks before and after surgery to soothe your skin and reduce the risk of scarring.

Use a rich cream moisturizer that builds up the skin barrier and protects it from the elements. When out and about, always wear sunscreen or a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face. Our practice can provide you with medical-grade skin products that will keep your face healthy and fresh.

Remember the day-of details.

The morning of your surgery can be a flurry of activity, but don’t forget the smaller details. When getting dressed, wear a zip-up or button-down shirt or jacket so you won’t have to pull any clothing over your head after surgery.

Pick up any pain medications beforehand and review surgery day instructions given to you by your doctor. If you ever have any extra questions, our staff is always just a call away and ready to help you feel confident and prepared before treatment.
