Dermal Fillers: What to Expect From Your First Treatment

If you’re looking for big results with little downtime, dermal fillers are an excellent option. Our Atlanta-area patients love using injectables to smooth wrinkles, improve skin texture, and add youthful volume to the face. Because the procedure is so straightforward and convenient, it’s a popular choice among first-time patients who want to take years off their appearance in a single appointment.

If you’re new to the world of cosmetic treatments, dermal fillers are a great way to start. In this blog post, we’ll walk through the step-by-step process of how a filler appointment works, so you can feel confident before heading into your procedure.

Before: Your Consultation

You can start your treatment journey by requesting a 1-on-1 consultation. During this time, you will meet with one of our physicians and talk more about your aesthetic goals. Here at Plastic Surgery Center of the South all injectable treatments are performed by our doctors, not a nurse. They are Master Injectors, meaning they have undergone extensive training and have significant expertise in the art of injectables. They will analyze your problem areas and recommend the best fillers for your needs. We may also suggest other anti-aging injectables, such as BOTOX ®, that could work well with your procedure.

During: The Treatment

Arrive a few minutes early to your appointment so you can complete any final paperwork. Once you’re finished, our staff will lead you back to the treatment room. Your injector will then mark the target areas and apply a numbing agent if necessary. Using a small, extremely fine needle, they will then begin a series of carefully placed injections.

The length of your treatment session will depend on the number of areas you’re having treated. Most filler sessions last for around 15 to 60 minutes.

After: Your Recovery

No downtime is required after a filler session, so you can return to your normal schedule soon as you leave the office. Results can start to be seen immediately after treatment. Slight redness or swelling may occur around the injected area, but this will vanish after a few days.

Any tenderness or discomfort can easily be treated with over-the-counter medication. Depending on the type of filler used, your results can last for 6 months to a year. Treatments are typically scheduled twice a year for maximum effect. Your provider will be able to recommend the best time for your touch-up appointment.

Overall, dermal fillers are a great way to rejuvenate the face without the need for surgery or recovery time. Patients can enjoy a fresh, youthful look in a matter of minutes. However, be sure to always find an experienced provider to perform any injectable treatments. It takes an artist’s eye and skilled hand to create safe, satisfying results.
