CoolSculpting® 101: Your Top Questions About the Nonsurgical Treatment

Both women and men are increasingly coming to us for  CoolSculpting®  in Marietta. If you’re considering this fat freezing treatment, you likely have a few questions about the reality behind the buzzed-about procedure. You may have heard about the popularity of the treatment and its benefits, but aren’t sure if it’s the right body contouring option for you.

In this blog post, we would like to answer a few of the questions we hear most often from prospective patients to fill you in on everything you need to know about CoolSculpting.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a nonsurgical body contouring procedure that safely freezes and destroys fat cells—a process called cryolipolysis—in localized areas without damaging surrounding tissue. These cells are naturally metabolized out of the body, reducing fat in targeted areas over the course of 3 or so months.

Who is the ideal candidate?

Ideal CoolSculpting candidates are at or near their target weight and are struggling with stubborn pockets of fat that resist diet and exercise. The main areas of concern include the abdomen, thighs, and flanks.

What is the treatment process like?

During the treatment, the cooling applicator is applied to the area of fat you want to reduce. You may experience a cold sensation or numbness, as if you were applying an ice pack. You’ll relax for about an hour while the treatment takes place. Once you’re finished, we will massage the treated area for 2 to 3 minutes, at which time you may experience some tingling, thawing, or redness. After that, you will be able to return to your normal activities immediately.

How long does it take?

Each treatment area takes about an hour. Patients are welcome to relax, read, or even check email during the appointment. You will likely start to notice results within a few weeks, and they’ll fully develop in 2 or 3 months, at which time you can decide if you would like to opt for additional treatments.

Which areas can be treated with CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting can treat the abdomen, inner and outer thighs, hips, arms, and flanks.

What are the anticipated results?

Each patient’s results vary, but you can generally expect to see a moderate slimming effect within the treated areas. It’s important to note that CoolSculpting isn’t intended to be a weight-loss treatment, but a method of reducing small areas of fat. How can I maintain my results?

The key to maintaining your results is to keep your body weight stable. Following a regular exercise regimen, trying out creative and challenging workouts, and walking around throughout the day can all work toward that goal. In addition, eating a healthy diet, staying hydrated, and reducing stress with meditation and self-care can be helpful.
