Breast Augmentation: Not Just for Volume

As one of the board-certified plastic surgeons in the Atlanta area, I see a number of female patients who are considering breast enhancement surgery. However, not all of these women are looking for bigger breasts. Sometimes, women seek surgery to:

  • Restore breast symmetry: It’s not unusual for a woman to have one breast that’s larger than the other. This can occur naturally, or it can be the result of injury or cancer-related surgery. Many women opt for augmentation solely to achieve a balance in size and shape.
  • Correct tuberous breasts: Tuberous – or constricted – breasts have the bulk of their volume at the tip. Some women are naturally predisposed to this condition, which can cause embarrassment. In some cases, it can also impede function for breastfeeding.
  • Restore breast shape after pregnancy: Motherhood can have some drastic effects on the shape and position of a woman’s breasts. Some post-pregnancy breast augmentation patients want to restore volume that was lost as a result of pregnancy and/or breastfeeding. Others may be interested in a breast lift to eliminate sagging and restore pre-pregnancy firmness and position.

Every woman who has breast augmentation surgery does so for her own reasons. Regardless of your specific motivation, your procedure should create results that make you feel better about your breasts and your body.
